The Rolls Royce Spectre, an exquisite and cutting-edge fully electric vehicle – a fist of its kind for Rolls Royce.
“The electric car is completely silent and environmentally friendly. There is no odour or vibrations. They will prove to be very useful once fixed charging stations can be established,” Charles Rolls, co-founder of Rolls-Royce, prophesied in 1900.
120 years after Charles Rolls made this prediction, the prestigious automaker finally introduces its first fully-electric car, the Rolls-Royce Spectre. This groundbreaking vehicle brings the renowned Rolls-Royce experience of instant torque, silent operation, and a smooth ride into a future free from emissions.
The Spectre, the world’s first ultra-luxury electric super coupe, not only represents the beginning of the brand’s electric era but also demonstrates their commitment to a fully electric product lineup by 2030.
The Spectre, now officially unveiled, marks Rolls-Royce’s entry into the battery-powered vehicle segment, signifying the start of their all-electric era. The first customer deliveries are expected in the fourth quarter of next year.
The advancement of electric vehicle technology has allowed Rolls-Royce to adopt a zero-emission powertrain in the Spectre, as there is now a standard that can deliver the iconic Rolls-Royce experience and even enhance it.
The company’s mission is to become fully electric by the end of the decade, and they believe that the instant torque, silent operation, and fluidity of the driving experience perfectly align with their values.
To embody the aesthetics of this emerging electric era, the creators of the Rolls-Royce Spectre drew inspiration from haute couture, modernist sculptures, and nautical designs. The headlights, resembling elegant jewellery boxes, are split by the widest grille ever seen on a Rolls-Royce. The vanes of the illuminated pantheon grille have been meticulously designed to be sleek and flush, helping to guide the flow of air around the vehicle. Even the iconic Spirit of Ecstasy sculpture has been aerodynamically tuned to enhance its drag coefficient to an impressive 0.25cd.
The Rolls-Royce Spectre features a sleek and striking design, with a prominent vertical bow line that gracefully extends from the front to the monolithic flanks of the vehicle. This lower line, inspired by the curved hull of yachts, mirrors the movement of the road beneath, much like the way a hull reflects the ocean.
The greenhouse of the car seamlessly and dramatically slopes, resembling the shape of a fastback coupé. The car also boasts muscular shoulders that lead to vertical, sleek tail lamps. These tail lamps are set into the largest single-body panel ever produced by Rolls-Royce, stretching from the A-pillar to the luggage compartment. Completing the remarkable design are the impressive 23-inch wheels, showcasing the vehicle’s elegance in this electric era.
Within the Spectre’s cabin, the skilled artisans have meticulously crafted a contemporary luxury experience that fills the spacious and comfortable interior with an unprecedented level of personalization.
Making its debut on a production model, the starlight doors create a mesmerizing depiction of a night sky, with 4,796 softly illuminated stars shining overhead. This celestial theme extends to the illuminated fascia, where the Spectre nameplate is surrounded by a constellation of over 5,500 stars.
The design of the all-new front seats showcases the pinnacle of British tailoring, with lapel sections available in matching or contrasting colours to the main base. Furthermore, customers have the option to select bespoke stitching, embroidery, and intricate piping, adding a truly individual touch to their luxurious sanctuary.
The digital display at the top of the Spectre features the completely revamped Spirit digital architecture, which offers nearly endless options for personalization. This advanced technology manages the car’s functions and is integrated with the Whispers application. Through Whispers, drivers are not only able to control car functions remotely but also receive real-time updates on the vehicle’s status.
The interior of the Spectre represents the pinnacle of technological advancement within the Rolls-Royce lineup. One notable feature is the optional Starlight Doors, which incorporate a stunning display of 4,796 illuminated dots throughout the cabin (excluding the headliner). Additionally, the Spectre introduces new front seats inspired by the art of British tailoring.
Developed on the Architecture of Luxury platform, the final power, range, and performance figures for the Spectre are currently being fine-tuned. However, preliminary data from Rolls-Royce indicates a peak output of 577 horsepower (430 kilowatts) and 664 pound-feet (900 Newton-meters) of instant torque. The estimated EPA range for the vehicle is up to 260 miles (418 kilometres) on a single charge while the projected 0-60 miles per hour (0-96 kilometres per hour) acceleration time is an impressive 4.4 seconds.
