The marque’s first all-electric motor car is a prophecy fulfilled.
Inspired by nautical design and contemporary art, Rolls-Royce has officially begun its transition to electric cars. Some days ago, the luxury British manufacturer has unveiled its first all-electric car, and it says it’s already attracting more orders than it had hoped for.
Consider “the world’s first ultra-luxury electric super coupé”, this electric car – known as the Spectre and a “spiritual successor” to the Phantom – marks a new chapter in the luxury carmaker’s history. It also promises to be even quieter and smoother thanks to its powerplant. However, it expects to be an all-wheel drive machine that makes 0-60MPH dash in 4.4 seconds and achieves an EPA range of 230 miles.
“We have learnt from our clients worldwide that the experience – to sit in a Rolls-Royce, to drive a Rolls-Royce shouldn’t be in any way compromised. And we obviously listened and this car, I can tell you, is the Rolls-Royce of electric vehicles”.
When creating and designing this magnificent car, Rolls-Royce Company has paid attention to detail and said that “perfection” has been prior. “It is a Rolls-Royce first and then an electric Rolls-Royce second,” CEO Torsten Müller-Ötvös said. “It is probably the most intense testing we have ever put on a Rolls-Royce,” said Müller-Ötvös. “And it is really to make sure that the car is pitch perfect and is a Rolls-Royce in every single detail”.
“Designed as a stylistic connection between Spectre’s front and rear, the vertical brightwork of the tail lights pay homage to the iconic Illuminated Grille and its upright vanes.” Rolls Royce official website.
The interior design featured the now-obligatory instrument and infotainment displays, plus a digital fascia for the passenguer. Moreover, you can even have the company customize the color of the on-screen dials. An “Eleanor” assistant can handle in-car tasks, and a Whispers app can both send curated location recommendations and remotely control basic car functions (locks and heating).
The Spectre electric car also features the popular “Starlight Headliner” with hundreds of tiny lights that illuminate the car’s roof at night. And it goes even further with an option of thousands of stars lining the inside of the doors as well. The Spectre uses a new aluminum platform (the “Architecture of Luxury” tuned for EVs, and boasts “starlight” doows with 4,796 points of light. “You have the feeling of sitting right in the middle of stars,” Müller-Ötvös said of the experience. “We have put so much effort into every single detail”.
“SPIRIT is the digital extension of the Architecture of Luxury – setting a new precedent for how technology and luxury are married with automotive excellence. SPIRIT manages Spectre’s functions and seamlessly integrates into Whispers, Roll’s Royce’s exclusive owner’s app, allowing remote interaction with their car and receive live information curated by the marque’s luxury intelligence specialists.”
Müller-Ötvös said the Spectre’s price will sit between its Cullinan and Phantom models, starting at €400,000. The Spectre can be ordered now, with first deliveries expected to customers in the fourth quarter of 2023.
