Angel’s Envy has spent the last decade and a half carving out its own lane in Kentucky bourbon. Since its 2010 debut, the brand has become known for one thing above all: the art of finishing whiskey in premium wine barrels. Their beloved Bourbon Finished in Port has long served as their signature pour—an elegant blend of tradition, innovation, and unmistakably smooth character. Now, as the distillery approaches its 15th anniversary, Angel’s Envy is marking the moment with a landmark release: Angel’s Envy 10 Cask Strength Bourbon, their first-ever age-statement whiskey and the 14th iteration in their celebrated Cask Strength series.

This release doesn’t simply mark an anniversary—it represents a philosophical shift. Unlike most distilleries, which calculate age based solely on time spent in new charred oak barrels, Angel’s Envy includes both primary maturation and the secondary finishing period in their age statement. That detail is important, because finishing is a major part of the brand’s identity. The whiskey inside this bottle includes components as varied as a seven-year bourbon with a three-year port finish and a nine-year bourbon with a one-year finish. According to Master Distiller Owen Martin, the majority of the blend is actually 11 years old, but by law, the bottle must reflect the youngest element—ten years.

For Martin, this release is deeply personal. As only the second Master Distiller in the brand’s history—following the passing of legendary co-founder Lincoln Henderson in 2013—he has spent more than two years assembling the components that form Cask Strength 10. Some of the barrels in this blend were among the first he ever filled upon joining Angel’s Envy. “It’s kind of been a good full-circle release for me,” he says. “I’ve gotten to see it from start to finish—curating the barrels, filling the liquid, and then doing the final blending.”

That sense of completion makes this year’s Cask Strength release even more significant. Unlike the consistent flavor profile of the brand’s core expressions, each annual Cask Strength bottling is designed to be unique. The goal is creativity, collectability, and storytelling—an ever-changing sensory snapshot of Angel’s Envy’s evolving style. One year may lean into deep, rich port wine influence; another may showcase the bourbon’s structure more boldly. For Cask Strength 10, Martin explains that the focus was on highlighting the maturity and complexity of the aged bourbon itself. “If we’re going to do our oldest, and our first age-statement release,” he says, “we really wanted that bourbon to show.”

This creative freedom has made Angel’s Envy Cask Strength bottles cult favorites, sought after by collectors who appreciate craftsmanship and variation. Martin embraces that dynamic. “We want every year to taste a little bit different,” he explains. “We want there to almost be a collectability angle to it.”

While Angel’s Envy was founded in 2010, the company did not complete its distillery in downtown Louisville until 2016. That means their oldest in-house distilled barrels are now only just reaching nine years of age. Because of this timeline, the new 10-year age statement necessarily includes sourced Kentucky straight bourbon made with a mash bill closely matching Lincoln Henderson’s original recipe: 72% corn, 18% rye, and 10% malted barley. Martin emphasizes that this is temporary. As their house-made barrels continue to mature, future 10-year expressions will increasingly feature—and ultimately rely upon—their own distillate. Cask Strength 10, then, is both a celebration and a preview of what’s to come.

Bottled at a powerful 61.3% ABV (122.6 proof), this is Angel’s Envy’s highest-proof release since 2018—a nod to earlier heavy-hitting editions. Despite its impressive intensity, Martin notes that the emphasis remains balance: rich aged bourbon notes lifted by the signature elegance of the port finish. Only 24,000 bottles have been produced, making this a relatively small release, but its symbolic weight for the brand is massive.

Priced at $250, Cask Strength 10 is far more than a limited-edition bottle. It’s a milestone, marking Angel’s Envy’s evolution from an upstart with a daring vision to a distillery confident in its identity and ready to claim its place among Kentucky’s most respected whiskey houses. As the brand steps into its next decade, this age-statement release signals a new era—one rooted in tradition, guided by innovation, and committed to the craft that has defined Angel’s Envy from the very beginning.
