The Royal Caribbean Icon of the Seas is an impressive sight to behold. As the world’s largest cruise ship, its sheer size is mind-blowing, and it is truly a magnificent vessel. While words can describe its grandeur, seeing it in person is the only way to truly appreciate its awe-inspiring presence.

Meyer Turku shipyard is responsible for building this ship, and it’s no wonder they’re considered one of Europe’s leading shipbuilders. Royal Caribbean International’s president and CEO, Michael Bayley, recently confirmed that the vessel will join the Royal Caribbean fleet on October 26, well ahead of its 2024 debut. With an unbelievable array of amenities and exquisite design details, patrons will surely be left in awe.

Currently, the title of the world’s largest cruise ship belongs to another Royal Caribbean ship, Wonder of the Seas. It made its inaugural voyage in 2020 and measures 1,188 feet in length, with 18 decks available to explore, making it slightly shorter than the Icon of the Seas.

The statistics behind this new luxury cruise ship are truly eye-popping. It can accommodate 5,610 guests in 2,805 staterooms spread across 20 open decks, which include seven swimming pools and nine whirlpools.

When it departs from Miami, its homeport until spring 2025, passengers will find themselves in a haven of eight distinct “neighbourhoods.” Each neighbourhood offers a unique experience, such as the breathtaking ocean views of the AquaDome or the suspended infinity pool of The Hideaway.

Returning from previous Royal Caribbean ships, iconic neighbourhoods, including The Promenade and Central Park, are also featured on this expansive vessel. You’ll even find exciting activities like rock climbing and an ice arena.

To cater to all types of passengers, Royal Caribbean has carefully crafted 28 different room designs, ensuring there is a perfect option for everyone, including families. The itinerary of the Icon of the Seas promises plenty of fun in the sun, with planned stops at beautiful destinations like Cozumel, Mexico, Honduras, St. Maarten, and Royal Caribbean’s very own private island.

“We are positioning it as the ultimate family vacation, and when you step back and look at all the energy and time that has gone into creating this ship it is mind-blowing,” Bayley said.

The Icon completed its first set of sea trials on June 22, according to a Royal Caribbean statement.

“During her first set of sea trials, Icon of the Seas travelled hundreds of miles, during which the main engines, hull, brake systems, steering, noise, and vibration levels were all tested,” the statement said. “Everything was done on time as outlined in the schedule, despite her departure being delayed due to wind conditions.”

With just one glance at the Royal Caribbean Icon of the Seas, it’s evident that the journey itself is as much a part of the destination. Prepare to be amazed aboard this extraordinary vessel.
