Northern Ireland-based Bushmills has released the 2022 iteration the Causeway Collection – including its oldest whiskey to date.
Bushmills Irish Whiskey recently launched its 2022 series of rare single malts called The Causeway Collection. The ground-breaking Causeway Collection is the third in the series, is a selection of cask-finished and fully matured Irish single malt whiskeys from The Old Bushmills Distillery and Master Blender Alex Thomas.
Alex Thomas, Bushmills’ master blender, said, “It’s truly a privilege to work with such rare whiskeys in The Causeway Collection. They are the fruits of over 400 years of Bushmills whiskey-making tradition, each expertly created and nurtured over decades.”
A statement from the distiller notes that this third release includes a 33-year-old Port, the oldest expression ever released from The Old Bushmills Distillery, as well as 25 and 30-year-old Madeiras, an 11-year-old Cognac and an 11-year-old Banyuls.
The collection also includes interesting new cask finishes, including 2012 Pomerol, 1997 Rum, 12 Year Tequila, 2012 Burgundy and 2002 Absinthe. Near the distillery, nature’s Giant’s Causeway is said to have been the inspiration for Bushmills’ bartenders for decades. The Causeway Collection is known for its basalt rock columns, inspired by ocean air and mineral-rich waters.
Bushmills Causeway Collection 2022 includes these ten bottlings:
- 33 year old port
- 25 year old Madeiras
- 30 year old Madeiras
- 11 year old cognac
- 11 Year Old Banyuls
- 2012 Pomerol
- 1997 rum
- 12 year old tequila
- 2012 Burgundy
- 2002 Vermouth
“The Causeway Collection is a celebration of our passion for single malts, and these special whiskeys are our greatest treasures,” said Thomas in a statement. “At Bushmills, we continue to innovate and create new expressions to excite the whiskey community. This collection, which includes sensational liquids matured expertly over many years, is our gift to them. We are proud to build on the growing legacy of The Causeway Collection in 2022 and excited to share it with whiskey fans around the globe.”
These series of whiskeys are only available in six European markets and Australia with prices ranging from about $90 to $1,200 (which depends on the age of the whiskey). However, keep an eye out, because bottles from previous collections have turned up in the secondary market, as limited-edition whiskeys like this are wont to do.
