Rolex celebrates the centenary of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, an annual automotive endurance race in France. The luxury brand has introduced a special edition of the modern and legendary Daytona Chronograph watch to commemorate the event’s 100th year.
This new model is crafted from white gold and closely resembles the updated references launched at Watches & Wonders earlier this year. It showcases a reverse panda dial and a distinctive black ceramic tachymeter scale that highlights the “100” indication in red. Additionally, the watch’s movement is expertly calibrated to meet the demands of the gruelling day-long race.
With a dial reminiscent of the famous Daytona “Paul Newman”, the model has a transparent case back that reveals the new Caliber 4132 movement, a chronograph with a 24-hour counter. This highly original watch brings back the flair of the exotic Paul Newman-style Panda dial, set in a white gold case with an open back.
Meticulously crafted from 18kt white gold, this exceptional new luxury 40 x 12.2 mm timepiece showcases a Cerachrom bezel made of black ceramic; on the tachymetric scale, the number ‘100’ in red ceramic evokes the race’s centenary. Accentuating the tachymetric scale is the vibrant red ceramic numeral ‘100,’ symbolizing the race’s centenary. Like the rest of the line, however, this new model offers a solid 100 meters of water resistance.
Standing out against the bright striking black dial are intense white counters whose graphic design is inspired by a traditional Rolex dial, and which have been inspired by traditional Rolex aesthetics. The Oyster case of this remarkable watch is fitted with a transparent back and paired with an Oyster bracelet, exemplifying Rolex’s signature style.
24 Hours Instead of 12
