This new limited-edition Tequila is made with the final agave harvest planted by Don Julio Gonzalez.
Tequila Don Julio introduced its latest 36-moth aged luxury “Ultima Reserva Extra Anejo” tequila to honour the brand’s late founder, Don Julio Gonzalez, who followed his heart and spent decades perfecting his craft. He has definitely created one of Mexico’s most loved tequilas.
In 2006, Don Julio with his family planted their final agave field. In honour of his devotion and craftsmanship, this agave harvest was carefully distilled, barreled, and set aside to create a rare Extra Anejo Tequila. To preserve this tequila and the exquisite agave pinnacles behind it, the brand implemented a Solera ageing system.
This limited-edition Tequila was aged with the Solera method, combining and maturing Tequilas of different characteristics finished in various casks. This allowed the final agave harvest to remain “at the heart” of this rare extra-Anejo Tequila.
This exclusive second bottling liquid returned to the market to commemorate ten years since the passing of the brand’s late founder. “It’s been ten years since the passing of our late founder Don Julio Gonzalez. We are proud to honour his legacy by releasing the second bottling of Tequila Don Julio Ultima Reserva,” said Christina Choi, senior vice-president of Tequila, Diageo North America.
If something distinguished Don Julio, it is that he transmitted love for tequila. “He always mentioned that when you have passion, you have everything,” Cynthia Garcia, Head at Tequila Don Julio, told in an interview. “How Don Julio Gonzalez did things and his conviction to make tequila, that was the passion he got at every step, and that is what inspires all of us who work in the brand. He was always looking for ways to do things differently. He was a pioneer in everything.” She added.
“This liquid is truly so rare and special that we’re continuing to release Tequila Don Julio Ultima Reserva in highly limited quantities each year, allowing us to preserve Don Julio Gonzalez’s ultimate legacy as long as possible.”
The Don Julio “Ultima Reserva Extra-Anejo Tequila” was rested in oak barrels previously used to age bourbon and finished in Madeira wine-seasoned casks. Presented in a beautiful bottle with an etched cap, faceted base, and decorated with piña-inspired designs, the golden-hued liquor starts with a nose of toasted oak and caramel, followed by delicate notes of citrus and apricot, before finishing with deliciously smooth honeyed agave.
Only 4,000 cases of Tequila Don Julio Reserva will be released this year, and highly limited quantities of this luxuriously rare liquid will continue to be released each year until it reaches the end of this final agave harvest. The second bottling of Tequila Don Julio Ultima Reserva is now available in highly limited quantities in select markets while supplies last, with a suggested retail price of $499 for a 750ml bottle.
The tequila is the perfect drink meant to be enjoyed exactly as Don Julio intended – celebrating life close to friends and family.
