Two global icons showcase impossibly exclusive timepieces, proving that true luxury lies in rarity, legacy, and unmistakable style.

Being a Rolex brand ambassador—officially known as a “testimonee”—comes with more than just global prestige and an enviable paycheck. For the lucky few who make the cut, it’s a passport into one of the most exclusive circles in luxury horology. These chosen figures gain access to Rolex’s most secretive creations: the “off-catalog” watches. These ultra-rare, never-publicly-available models are often sold only to a select inner circle, if they’re sold at all. For most collectors, they’re little more than myth. But for Rolex’s most valued ambassadors, they’re wrist-worn reality.
This year, Rolex expanded its roster of testimonees by welcoming none other than Leonardo DiCaprio, marking the first time the brand has ever partnered with a Hollywood actor. The move signaled Rolex’s growing interest in bridging cinematic glamour with traditional craftsmanship. DiCaprio, a longtime watch aficionado and environmental advocate, has wasted no time proving he’s worthy of his new role.

At the recent premiere of his blockbuster film One Battle After Another, which just surpassed the $100 million mark at the global box office, DiCaprio appeared wearing one of the most coveted modern Rolex pieces in existence—the Rolex Daytona “Le Mans” in white gold. This particular model, introduced quietly earlier this year, has become the stuff of legend among collectors.
Nicknamed the “coolest watch money can’t buy,” the “Le Mans” celebrates the 100th anniversary of the famed endurance race. Its design draws inspiration from classic motorsport aesthetics while pushing technical boundaries. For collectors, it represents the next evolution of Rolex’s most iconic chronograph line. The watch’s combination of subtle luxury, racing heritage, and extreme scarcity makes it a future grail piece in the making.

Of course, DiCaprio isn’t the only A-lister to sport the “Le Mans.” The model has appeared on the wrists of several other celebrity collectors including Tom Brady, Mark Zuckerberg, Michael Jordan, Mark Wahlberg, LeBron James, Lionel Messi, John Mayer, Kevin Hart, and Sir Jackie Stewart, among others. Despite its discreet profile, the watch has become the ultimate insider’s statement—a nod to those who understand that true exclusivity doesn’t need to shout.

But while DiCaprio’s “Le Mans” made headlines, another Rolex testimonee took things even further. Enter Roger Federer, tennis royalty and one of Rolex’s longest-standing ambassadors. Federer has long been known for his impeccable taste both on and off the court, and his watch collection reads like a history of Rolex excellence. Yet even by his lofty standards, what he wore during the recent Laver Cup tournament in San Francisco turned heads across the luxury world.
Federer arrived wearing a Rolex Daytona “Blue Sapphire”, a watch so rare that even seasoned collectors have only heard whispers of its existence. With an estimated value of $1.5 million, this timepiece features an 18K white-gold case, a natural silver obsidian dial, and a bezel adorned with 36 baguette-cut blue sapphires and 54 brilliant-cut diamonds. The effect is breathtaking—refined yet unapologetically opulent.

Unlike the famous “Rainbow” Daytona, which flaunts a kaleidoscope of colored gems, the “Blue Sapphire” is restrained and elegant. Its deep sapphire tones lend it a cool sophistication that perfectly suits Federer’s calm and composed demeanor. As he took his seat courtside alongside Andy Murray, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic, the glint from his wrist did not go unnoticed.
Also present at the Laver Cup was Carlos Alcaraz, the current world number one and one of Rolex’s newer ambassadors. Alcaraz wore a rare off-catalog Daytona with a Tiffany-blue dial—a statement piece in its own right. But even he appeared awestruck by Federer’s ultra-exclusive “Blue Sapphire.” For all of Alcaraz’s rising star power, Federer’s Rolex seemed to quietly remind everyone of the difference between promise and legacy.

Paul Altieri, founder and CEO of Bob’s Watches and one of the world’s foremost Rolex collectors, weighed in on the significance of these pieces. “The ‘Le Mans’ Daytona is an absolute winner,” Altieri said. “It’s my top pick to become as iconic as the ‘Paul Newman’ Daytona in the years to come.” The legendary “Paul Newman” model, named after the actor and racing enthusiast, remains one of the most valuable and sought-after watches ever produced. For Altieri to draw that comparison suggests that DiCaprio’s white-gold Daytona could one day achieve similar status.
As for Federer’s “Blue Sapphire,” Altieri considers it in a class of its own. “It’s one of only a few examples Rolex will ever make,” he explained. “It might be more rare, but it’s almost an oddity or novelty piece, with an outlandish price to match.” Indeed, its rarity makes it less of a daily wear piece and more of a horological treasure—a museum-grade artifact that just happens to be worn by one of the greatest tennis players in history.
What truly excites collectors, Altieri notes, is the possibility that one or both of these watches might one day go up for auction. “The provenance of these pieces would put them into the stratosphere,” he said. “Rolex would no doubt like to acquire them for its own private collection, but there are collectors whose pockets are almost as deep—and whose desire is just as strong.”
In the rarefied world of Rolex, ownership is as much about storytelling as it is about status. A Daytona is never just a watch—it’s a chronicle of excellence, endurance, and achievement. That’s why it feels almost poetic that Leonardo DiCaprio, a cinematic legend, and Roger Federer, a sporting icon, are now connected through two of the rarest Rolexes ever made.
For fans and collectors alike, seeing these timepieces on the wrists of men who have defined their respective crafts is a reminder of what Rolex has always represented: the pursuit of perfection, timeless elegance, and the extraordinary reward of being one in a million.
