Sapire Residence

Located at Pacific Palisades, this breathtaking single-family home ‘Sapire Residence’ has been designed by Los Angeles award winning architecture firm Abramson Architects. The magnificent architectural residence was completed in 2019 and it offers an incredible view of the Santa Monica Mountains and the Pacific Ocean, specially designed for family residents who likes nature, and contemporary structural designs. Besides, the home also offers the opportunity to live a healthy living thanks to the house’s sloping 2-acre site, which also gives people the chance to enjoy as much of the site as possible. Moreover, the architect’s statement features organic materials layered in the mountains.

Situated on a promontory jutting into the canyon below the hillside retreat boasts multiple vistas of the surrounding canyon and the Pacific Ocean beyond. In addition to this, as local restrictions allowed for a single story above street level, much of the home’s massing is located on a lower-level that daylights onto the downslope side of the house, allowing neighboring properties to see over the roof of the home.

The home’s structure also features landscaped topography “fingers” in which bridges span over them, extending the natural graded areas into the heart of the home and offering new perspectives for experiencing the owner’s prized views while providing a glimpse of the topography.

As regards key products used for the home, we have the use of a simple and classic colour scheme plus contemporary materials. They have been key for the design philosophy so as to fulfill properties’ expectations. What is essential to mention is the use implementation of French manor oak flooring, white oak shiplap wall cladding, oil rubbed bronze wall panels, and painted steel. They have also been key for the house since they aim to show the picturesque surroundings while pebble and stone accents embrace the nearby mountains, resulting in material palette that is modern, yet warm.

BRIEF:

Situated on a promontory point, the Palisades House emerge from below the surface of an otherwise undisturbed canyon rim and provides a healthy living thanks to the owners’ envisioned home woven into the topography of their dramatically sloping 2-acre site.

There are stepped roofs which reduce the 17,000 sqft dwelling’s perceived mass. This aspect creates the illusion of several interconnected structures. The home also provides efficient footprint, which occupies less than 19% of the property and preserves the site’s organic flow (the neighbor’s views to the Pacific Ocean and the Santa Monica Mountains).

As the home aims to help the environment, it has been built following sustainability. While building the home, measures were taken by the designers and concrete contractors to reduce the thermal bridging. Before the concrete was poured, 2” thick rigid insulation was placed into the center of the 14” thick concrete walls, resulting in an increased R-value in the walls. The home also features custom stormwater retention system, dedicated solar panels for heating the pool and hydronic in-floor radiant heating.
