Riva Aquarama: The Most Luxurious Speed Boat

Discover the world’s most stunning wooden speedboat here.

Riva Aquarama

The Riva speedboat model is a classic wooden boat built by Italian builder Carlo Riva. This new version of the Mediterranean speedboat is based on the previous Tritone model, and the series was first introduced in 1962. The company was founded by Pietro Riva in 1842, and run by Carlo Riva through its 1969 sale to the American Whittaker Corporation.

Nowadays, Alberto Galassi, CEO of Ferrari Group, is the owner of the iconic Italian boatbuilder Riva. “For me, the Riva Aquarama is simply one of the most beautiful things I own. It will never go out of style because it is a work of art created by a genius. Like the works that remain over time and in our memory, it amazes me every time because it proves that man’s craftsmanship can produce stunning masterpieces that, in turn, forge the aesthetic soul of those who admires them.”

“In May 2000, Riva became part of Ferretti Group, who restored it to where it is today, at the vanguard of world boating as a recognised icon of fine Italian yachting artistry. This felicitous journey is down to the know-how of the group Engineering department and the sensibility of designer Mauro Micheli, co-founder with Sergio Beretta of Officina Italiana Design, the studio that exclusively designs the whole Riva fleet.” From Riva.

The new additional features of the Riva Aquarama include separate front seats and a central gangway to allow easier access to the water from the stern. This new addition is the last variant in the series of 4: The Riva Aquarama Special, which features a powerful performance containing two engines boasting a remarkable 350-horse power. The powerboat Riva Aquarama had been produced by the brand Riva from 1960 to 1996. Riva Aquarama is an 8.45 meters classic renegade with accommodation for 5 people and a craft of 0.60 meters.

All versions were twin-engined, with top speeds of 45/50 knots depending on engine choice. Power varied from 185 hp to 400 hp per engine, delivered by Riva ‘tuned’ Cadillac and Chrysler models, among others. On top of the engine compartment was a cushioned sundeck. The boats also carried a convertible roof, which retracted behind the rear seat and cockpit. A swim ladder was often mounted in the stern.

“I know it’s an inanimate object, but if you have a passion and love for beautiful machines, as I do, then you will identify with the design, performance and quality of the work. When you put those elements together, it creates a mystique and desire between the owner and the object.” Said Bruce Paddock, who owns the Aquarama Special Mistral II.
