Meet the luxurious RM66 Manual Winding Flying Turbillon watch.
Watchmaker Richard Mille unveiled its latest RM66 Manual Winding Flying Tourbillon watch for rockstar people who are not afraid of looking stunning at any moment. With the emblematic “sign of the horns” as the centrepiece of the luxurious watch and the rose gold openwork hand as skeletal imagery) has been imbued with meaning. Visual artists have employed the same code for hundreds of years, typically as a Memento Mori – a symbolic reminder of the inevitability of death. However, the watch uses much of the same code. The RM66 isn’t morbid, it’s life-affirming, and it’s rock and roll.
Created by Genevan engraver Oliver Vaucher, the skeletal hand has been extremely and carefully crafted by hand in 5N red gold and attached to the barrel bridge.
“The so-called devil’s horn, where the index and pinky fingers are raised as the thumb holds down the ring and middle fingers has a particularly colourful identity. Heir to centuries of diverse traditions, beliefs, and superstitions, the horn has become a cultural, social and even political phenomenon. Today, it symbolizes kinship and inclusion, with a pinch of rebellion and darkness, and a guitar riff screeching in the background.” – From Richard Mille.
The openwork RM66 features a manual winding calibre, which showcases a fast-winding barrel positioned at six o’clock and the tourbillon at 12 o’clock. “Positioned at 12 o’clock, the flying tourbillon is a complex regulating mechanism. The distinctive feature of the so-called ‘flying’ tourbillon is that its cage is assembled without an upper bridge, creating the impression of weightlessness and offering perfect visibility.” From Richard Mille.
The free-sprung balance offers better reliability in the event of shocks or movement assembly and disassembly and guarantees better chronometric results over an extended period. Four small adjustable screws are also implemented directly on the balance for more accurate and repeatable calibration.
The RM66 also features a grade 5 titanium movement, with 90% titanium, 6% aluminium, and 4% vanadium. Twenty spine screws are assembled on the tripartite case in grade 5 titanium and are fitted with two Nitril O-ring seals to 50 meters of water resistance.
The case of the RM66 Flying Tourbillon measures 42.77mm-wide by 49.94mm lug-to-lug, with an overall thickness of 16.15mm. The bezel and case back are crafted from black Carbon TPT, while the middle caseband is made from 5-grade titanium and features brushed pillars with polished bevels.
The RM 66 Flying Tourbillon is one of the brand’s most incredible designs so far, displaying the emblematic sign of the horns as a way of thinking of a generation. Crafted by hand, it has been created following strict and meticulous instructions. The result is a perfect and fascinating design, with the finest details and a faithful reflection of the brand. The 50-piece limited edition perfectly represents the brand’s tribute to the world of rock and roll music. The RM66 “Horn To Be Wild” watch is available to purchase at $1.1 million.
