Porsche: Chronograph 1 – 1975 Limited Edition

Porsche Design is marking five decades of innovation in watchmaking with the release of the Chronograph 1 – 1975 Limited Edition, a tribute to the brand’s legendary design heritage.

Inspired by the uncoated stainless-steel version of the original Chronograph I from 1975, this limited edition of 350 pieces merges precision engineering with timeless automotive aesthetics—hallmarks of both the Porsche brand and its founder, Professor Ferdinand Alexander Porsche.

The original Chronograph I, launched in 1972, was the first watch designed by F. A. Porsche, and it brought his groundbreaking “form equals function” ethos—seen in the creation of the Porsche 911—to the world of horology. Three years later, the brushed stainless-steel edition of 1975 offered a clean, utilitarian aesthetic that would go on to influence military-issue variants.

Now, the 2025 Chronograph 1 – 1975 Limited Edition revives this iconic look, but with a modern twist: a full titanium construction, chosen for its exceptional strength, lightweight feel, and hypoallergenic properties. Porsche Design was the first to introduce titanium in luxury watchmaking back in 1980, and this new model reaffirms its reputation for technical innovation.

Engineered Like a Porsche

The dial of the new Chronograph draws direct inspiration from the dashboard of the Porsche 911. It features a matte-black background, bold white numerals and indices, and a striking red stop-seconds hand—a nod to the functionality and readability of high-performance instruments.

Super-LumiNova-coated hands and markers ensure visibility in low light, while a tachymeter scale frames the dial for those who crave the practicality of speed and distance measurement. The dual-language date display (German and English) adds another layer of sophistication and versatility.

Subtle but meaningful details include both the current Porsche Design logo and the historic icon, bridging past and present in a way collectors will appreciate.

Built for the Collector

The glass bead-blasted titanium case and bracelet come with a matching folding clasp, delivering a robust yet refined look and feel. The solid titanium crown and caseback are engraved with “Flyback Automatic,” showcasing the powerful Porsche Design Caliber WERK 01.240 movement inside—an in-house chronograph caliber known for its flyback functionality, which allows for quicker stopwatch resets and restarts.

Adding to its rarity, each timepiece is individually engraved with its edition number and “1975”, reinforcing its commemorative status. The Chronograph 1 – 1975 Limited Edition is handcrafted in Solothurn, Switzerland, at Porsche’s exclusive watchmaking facility, and comes in a presentation box with a special commemorative plaque.
