This stunning new Atlantis the Royal on the Palm Island perfectly expresses the future of both design and hospitality.

With more than 780 luxury hotel rooms and residences for 231 households, this newest $1.3-billion mega-hotel has become one of the most incredible hotels worldwide, costing $1.3 billion to build. It took 14 years before The Royal was ready to be unveiled to the public, as the planning for the resort began in 2008. The structure is S-shaped from above and resembles stacked Lego blocks from the front. The resort was designed by the architecture firm Kohn Pederson Fox Associates.
“Atlantis the Royal is about experiencing something you never imagined could be and the architecture sets this up masterfully,” says Tim Kelly, managing director of Atlantis the Dubai says. There are “six towers joined together by a 90-foot infinity pool, redrawing the Dubai skyline and creating a new icon on the Palm.”
James von Klemperer, who is the KPF president and design principal of the Atlantis the Royal says, “We were asked to dream big on this project. To create something unique and iconic for Dubai – and when I look at it now, I’m amazed by the audacity of the whole undertaking,” he says, “with its vertical piling up of outdoor experiences in the pools, outside spaces and remarkable design features.”
Opened on February 10 this year, the Atlantis The Royal features 795 rooms (across 43 floors), suites and signature penthouses, including eight accessible options, of which 44 suites and penthouses have their own private pools, across 43 stories and three towers: the Sunrise, Sunlight and Sunset. Each luxurious room is decorated with hand-sculpted textures, leathers and geometrics, as well as bespoke amenities by luxury brands like Hermès, Frette and Graff.
Inside this breathtaking resort, there are also cabanas with private plunge pools, two adults-only pools at Nobu by the Beach and Cloud 22, as well as the Royal Pool for families, which also features a kid’s pool. A sky pool villa, for instance, offers a view of the Arabian Sea or the Palm Islands. The luxury resort also has got, a private patio with daybeds, and futons. It has also got a beach club and the world’s largest waterpark: The Atlantis Aquaventure. It features 50 slides, 79 rides and attractions, a private beachfront, and other amenities.
It has also got 17 bars and restaurants, including eight by celebrity chefs like José Andrés and Nobu Matsuhisa, who provides residents with a wide variety of cultural menu, specially offered for perfect vacation dining. “We have selected the best chefs in the world to create exceptional culinary experiences. As in every luxury resort, the Atlantis The Royal provides a big wellness centre with traditional Hammam or Turkish baths. Additionally, there are water activities like scuba diving and underwater yoga.
