The luxurious convertible from Maserati makes a comeback featuring a cutting-edge Nettuno V6 engine, delivering 542 horsepower in the high-performance Trofeo variant.

To the delight—but not surprise—of the Maserati faithful, the convertible follow-up to the revitalized GranTurismo coupe has finally arrived. The Maserati GranCabrio, boasting the best name in the convertible luxury car market, pays homage to the first generation of the GranTurismo-based Maserati grand tourers.

Unlike other automakers that add generic descriptors like “spider,” “roadster,” or “cabriolet” to their models, Maserati’s naming strategy for the GranCabrio stands out with its clever classification. While some simply add the suffix “-riolet” to their existing model names, Maserati sets a unique standard in the industry.

Inside the GranCabrio, advanced technology seamlessly combines with luxury. The car boasts an 8.8-inch comfort display, accompanied by a 12.3-inch central display. Both displays provide connectivity options such as Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Baidu Carlife, enabling users to connect up to two phones. The 12.2-inch digital dashboard, wrapped around the steering wheel, offers maximum visibility, while the customizable heads-up display projects relevant information, including speed, maps, and directions, directly onto the windshield.

The timeless Maserati design on the exterior of the GranCabrio pays homage to the brand’s racing heritage. The “confango,” a clever word combining “cofano” (hood) and “parafango” (fender), beautifully integrates the long hood and fender into one clean piece. The four fenders elegantly divide the central body into upper and lower halves, and the vertical lights near the recognizable 3D Trident logo signify the modern era of Maserati design.

The heart of the GranCabrio lies in its 3.0-litre twin-turbo “Nettuno” V6 engine, a powertrain shared with the GranTurismo coupe and the MC20 supercar. Derived from Formula 1 engines, it features a unique pre-chamber system that optimizes output and torque. In this application, the Nettuno engine produces an impressive 542 horsepower, with power available in variable quantities through COMFORT, GT, SPORT, CORSA, and electronic stability control-less (ESC-Off) modes.

The Maserati GranCabrio is initially launching in the high-performance Trofeo trim. However, given its modular architecture shared with the GranTurismo, it is highly anticipated that Maserati will announce additional versions, including the all-electric Folgore and the entry-level Modena trims shortly.

The Maserati GranCabrio embodies the perfect blend of luxury, sophistication, and racing heritage. Its stunning design, innovative technology, and powerful performance make it a standout option in the competitive convertible luxury car market. Maserati continues to elevate the automotive experience with its creative naming strategy and commitment to delivering exceptional vehicles built to captivate enthusiasts and loyal customers alike.
