Brabus has never been particularly interested in subtlety. The German performance powerhouse has built its reputation by taking already formidable machines and pushing them into outrageous territory, and its latest creation brings that philosophy from the road to the water.
Unveiled at the 2026 Cannes Yachting Festival, the new Brabus Shadow 1000 XC Cross Cabin is a 38-foot performance dayboat with 1,000 horsepower, a top speed approaching 60 knots and the sinister blacked-out aesthetic that has become synonymous with Brabus’s Shadow series.
It is, in other words, a supercar for the sea.
The numbers alone make the Shadow 1000 XC an attention-grabber.
Power comes from a pair of Mercury 500R V8 outboard engines, each producing 500 horsepower. Together, the supercharged engines deliver the boat’s headline figure of 1,000 horsepower and enable a claimed top speed of approximately 60 knots, or around 69 mph.
On land, 69 mph might not sound extraordinary for a performance machine. On water, however, it is an entirely different proposition.
The Shadow 1000 XC is designed around the principle that a dayboat should be capable of combining high-speed thrills with genuine usability. Its twin-outboard configuration provides the brute force necessary for serious performance while maintaining the flexibility expected from a modern luxury vessel.
And naturally, Brabus has given the boat an appearance to match.
The “Shadow” name is more than a dramatic designation. It refers to the dark, stealth-inspired visual treatment that has become a signature of Brabus’s most exclusive creations.
The Shadow 1000 XC features a distinctive Black Ops exterior, combining deep dark finishes with exposed and glossy carbon-fiber elements. The result is unmistakably aggressive without relying on excessive ornamentation.
Brabus also offers contrasting Graphite and lighter Moonstone tones, allowing owners to introduce additional dimension into the predominantly dark aesthetic. Inside, glossy carbon-fiber surfaces continue the theme, while carefully placed red accents provide a flash of contrast.
Even the roof-light configuration has been redesigned for the latest model year, giving the 38-footer a more contemporary appearance.
The overall effect is closer to a high-performance automobile than a conventional leisure boat—which is precisely the point.
One of the Shadow 1000 XC’s defining features is its XC Cross Cabin configuration.
Developed around the platform created by Finnish boatbuilder Axopar, the Cross Cabin concept combines the protection of an enclosed pilothouse with the freedom of an open-air boat. Gullwing-style doors on either side of the cabin can slide open, dramatically changing the atmosphere onboard depending on weather and conditions.
Inside, an L-shaped sofa and table create a social space for passengers, while the open aft deck provides room for enjoying the water once the engines are switched off.
That versatility is central to the boat’s appeal. The Shadow 1000 XC isn’t intended to be a stripped-down speed machine that exists solely for chasing a top-speed number. It is designed as a luxury dayboat that can transition from high-speed cruising to relaxed entertaining.
Air conditioning adds another layer of comfort, while premium materials and customizable lighting reinforce the feeling that this is a luxury environment rather than simply a high-powered vessel.
Behind the dramatic styling is an equally sophisticated technology package.
The helm features twin 16-inch Simrad NSS EVO4 multifunction displays, giving the captain access to navigation information and critical vessel data. A HALO 20+ radar, FLIR 360-degree night vision system, rearview camera and advanced echo-sounder technology further enhance situational awareness.
Maneuvering is assisted by joystick-controlled trim tabs and a bow thruster integrated with Mercury’s Joystick Piloting for Outboards system. The technology is designed to provide more precise control during low-speed maneuvering and docking—particularly useful for a vessel that prioritizes performance without sacrificing usability.
Elsewhere onboard, Brabus has integrated a premium audio system, configurable RGB ambient lighting and dual-color underwater lights.
The result is a boat equally prepared for an evening anchored offshore or a high-speed run across open water.
The Shadow 1000 XC occupies an increasingly interesting space in the luxury marine market. Today’s most desirable dayboats aren’t necessarily enormous yachts designed for weeks at sea. Instead, they are compact, highly engineered vessels built around performance, design and social experiences.
Brabus understands that formula exceptionally well.
The company has transferred the same philosophy that defines its automotive creations to the water: enormous power, aggressive styling, advanced technology and an unmistakable visual identity.
The result is a 38-foot boat capable of delivering 1,000 horsepower and nearly 70 mph, while still offering an enclosed cabin, climate control, sophisticated navigation equipment and enough onboard space for a day of entertaining.
At Cannes, where luxury yachts routinely compete for attention, the Shadow 1000 XC makes a particularly convincing argument for a different kind of excess.
It isn’t the biggest boat in the harbor.
