This 144.5-proof bourbon whiskey was aged for a minimum of 10 years with barrels selected by Master Distiller Brian Prewitt and Distiller David Bock. The Limited-Edition Cask Strength Virginia Straight Bourbon Whiskey features delightful aromas of vanilla, apple, and dried cherries. This mixture of aromas strikes a great balance between the soft, sweet floral notes and strong wood char flavours. It also features a taste of toasted pecan and candied nuts, giving way to brown sugar, brown spice, and toasted coconut. This bourbon is bottled uncut and non-chill-filtered, with an oily and viscous aftertaste that keeps going long after the final sip. “At 144.5 proof, Cask Strength Bourbon #2 is delightfully intense, but the aroma hides some of the robust pepperiness of the actual bourbon you are about to taste,” said Prewitt.
For this latest Bourbon Batch #2 release, the American company wanted to go one level higher by focusing on innovation while continuing with its tradition that put them as a powerhouse in the industry. It also wanted to boast the last barrels of whiskey poured by ASB’s former Master Distiller Joe Dangler, who was working in the company for over 30 years. “Joe’s influence left an undeniable mark on our distillery,” argued Prewitt. “We’re honoured to have the great responsibility of continuing his work by picking up where he left off, focusing on innovation and pushing the American whiskey category forward.”
“While last year’s inaugural Batch #1 boasted a more delicate profile that drank like a much lower proof bourbon (though it wasn’t), this year’s offering really roars,” said distiller David Bock in a press release. “Batch #1’s proof snuck up on you; Batch #2 slaps you in the char. Batch #2 also contains the last of the barrels Joe Dangler, former master distiller at A. Smith Bowman for over 30 years, laid down. Master Distiller David Bock said that the creation process of this latest release whiskey when thinking about the specific taste profile has been an unforgettable one. He stated, “We don’t always set out with a specific taste profile in mind – the beauty of creating an uncut, unfiltered whiskey is balancing the flavours that come through right from the barrel,”. He also explained that focusing on the “barrel ageing process and blending expertise” came into play.
